The renewal of the Slotheerenbuurt is not only an opportunity to create a new entrance to the village of Heemskerk but also to engage with the social structure of the area. The current neighbourhood consist of medium-rise apartment buildings, built in the post-war period; the houses are too small and not easily accessible. The aim is to create small neighbourhoods that connect to the environment and have a clear distinct character. Although the housing typology in the new plan will largely consist of single-family houses, it will also include social rented houses and dwellings for the elderly.
After an intensive collaboration with the inhabitants of the neighbourhoods, interested residents and stakeholders, the plan was presented and enthusiastically received by the municipality and is now being realized.
