House S/ completed

atelier ka was asked to to design a home for a family of three within a given context. By the time atelier ka was approached the house was already in the make and almost finished, ‘casco’ delivered. This means that the position of kitchen, bathroom, toilet and electrical outlet were fixed but the rest had still to be decided.

Smart ‘thick’ walls separate rooms, provide access to rooms but also fulfill the need of a lot of storage space. As for the materialization, the walls transform from merely plastered elements into furniture.

Designing with plywood lends the home a warmth and tactility which breaks the serenity of the otherwise white space. The material offers an affordable and often sustainable alternative to other exotic wood choices, while remaining stylish and minimal.
